As a kid, I loved Christmas. It meant my mom dragging out the sparkly tinsel light covers (that she kept onto from the 60's), the white ceramic Christmas tree with the red lights (that sadly broke one year), and this little elf that I had hoped one day my mom would give to me to play with my Barbies with.
Instead, it was given to my younger brother to obliterate with his GI Joes.

Anything that is supposed to move on its own to different parts of the house (when the child isn't looking), screams therapy later on. But I guess that's just me, since my kiddo is absolutely enchanted by it. ("Mommy look! It's on the bookcase-- how did it get up there?")
So now, there's this Elf on the Shelf franchise going on. Martin Scorcese's daughter even has been in on it, making a movie for it.
