How To Save A LOT Of Money On Your Summer Berries!

My daughter a few years ago, picking raspberries.
When my mom was growing up in the 1940's and 50's, she would tell me of the summer job she had picking berries.  However, it never clicked with me, as she was telling a child who would often roll her eyes up at her mother, as she went on talking about having to walk several miles and then having to take the streetcar across the bridge in the snow to West Linn High School when she was a kid.

But with kiddos of my own now, I can see how this u-pick berry thing has its advantages, both cost-wise and spending time with the family doing something besides arguing about how long they spend cooped up playing video games.

With that said, if you are looking for something to do, and don't have a lot of money to do it with, then I suggest looking at some of the u-pick berry farms in your area.  You would be amazed at how much money you can save, whether you are just getting a big bowl of berries to have on hand-- or if you are doing the hard-core jamming activities that require buckets of them!

A tiny 6oz box of raspberries is currently priced for $3 at Safeway-- and that's on sale!

However, if you go to a u-pick farm, you can get a large bowl of them for that very same price!  Last year, I went every other weekend, and it was nice to just enjoy the fresh air, and hear the quiet of being somewhere that didn't have all of the traffic and the people-- you know?

But I totally recommend that you at least give your local u-pick farms a try, because you will be amazed at how much money you can save, enjoying the fruits of your labor!
